I was craving a bagel the other day but didn’t feel like going to the store. So I checked my kitchen for the basic ingredients: flour, baking powder, greek yogurt, sesame seeds, salt, and decided to make my own at home!
These homemade sesame seed bagels are so incredibly soft and moist; I promise you won’t even realize the key ingredient is greek yogurt!

Ingredients:
Makes 6 bagels –
- 1 cup all purpose flour (plus about 1/5 cup to sprinkle onto the counter/dough while kneeding)
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup plain greek yogurt
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds
- Butter spray
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit
- To a large bowl, add 1 cup all purpose flour, 2 tsp baking powder, and 2 tsp salt, then mix with a fork
- Once mixed, add 1 cup plain greek yogurt and 1 large egg, and mix well with a fork or spatula
- Sprinkle flour onto a counter or cutting board, and dump the dough onto the flour and knead the dough until it is no longer sticky – you don’t want the dough sticking to your fingers, if it is, add more flour
- Divide the dough into 6 equal chunks, rolls the dough into balls and then into rope shapes, and join the ends to make a round bagel shape
- Spray the donut/bagel pan with butter spray, and add the dough to each compartment of the pan – if you don’t have a donut/bagel pan, add the dough bagels to a parchment lined baking sheet
- Top the dough with egg wash (crack an egg in a bowl, whisk it with a fork, and spread over the dough with a fork or brush) and sprinkle sesame seeds on top
- Bake at 375 for 25 minutes, then remove the bagels from the oven and let rest for 15 minutes before cutting
- Cut bagels in half, and top with cream cheese or use the bagels to make a breakfast sandwich! (Feel free to toast the bagel more in the toaster for a crunchier bagel)
