Iced White Mocha

I used to buy an iced white mocha from Starbucks every single morning…until I learned how to perfect it at home. And honestly? This version is even better because it’s creamier, richer, and made exactly how I like it (which I never thought was possible at home)!

This recipe is a sneak peek from my upcoming cookbook, Coffee Shop at Home, and I couldn’t wait to share it with you. If you believe white mochas can do no wrong (same), you’re going to be obsessed with this one.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Tastes like a coffee shop white chocolate mocha (but even better 👀)
  • Super creamy and perfectly sweet
  • Made with simple, grocery store ingredients (no espresso machine needed)
  • Easy to customize (dairy-free, sugar-free, etc.)
  • Way more affordable than buying one every day

Ingredients (Serves 1)

  • 1–2 tablespoons Homemade White Chocolate Sauce (recipe follows) or store-bought
  • 2 shots espresso (about 2 ounces), to brew
  • 8 ounces milk of choice
  • Ice cubes
  • Whipped cream (optional)

How to Make an Iced White Mocha

  1. Add the white chocolate sauce to taste to a 16-ounce glass.
  2. Using your preferred espresso making method (see all the ways to make espresso at home), brew the espresso shots directly over the white chocolate sauce, and stir until combined.
  3. Add the milk and ice to the glass and stir until combined and chilled.
  4. Top with whipped cream if using, and enjoy.

Make It Hot

Follow steps 1 and 2 using a 12-ounce mug, then steam or warm the milk and add it to the espresso mixture. Omit the ice, and top with whipped cream, if desired.

Homemade White Chocolate Sauce (From My Cookbook!)

This is what takes your white mocha from good to coffee shop level!

Makes about 12 ounces

Ingredients:

  • 4 ounces half-and-half
  • 2 ounces heavy cream
  • 8 ounces (1 cup) white chocolate chips or chopped bar
  • 1 tablespoon salted butter
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. In a small saucepan, heat the half-and-half and heavy cream to a simmer over medium heat, then remove from the heat.
  2. Add the white chocolate and stir until it is fully melted and the mixture is smooth.
  3. Add the butter, salt, and vanilla and stir until fully melted and incorporated.
  4. Pour the sauce into a Mason jar or heatproof airtight container. Use the sauce right away, or let it cool completely, cover and store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

Tips for the Best White Mocha

  • Use espresso (not regular drip coffee from a coffee pot) for the best flavor
  • Stir the sauce + espresso first → this is key for smoothness and balanced flavor
  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less sauce
  • Use 2% milk or whole milk for the creamiest coffee shop texture

No Espresso Machine? No Problem!

You can still make this drink!

Use:

  • 2 teaspoons instant espresso + 2 ounces hot water
  • Nespresso
  • Moka pot
  • AeroPress

👉 I break down all the best methods in my cookbook so you can make amazing coffee no matter what you have at home!

Easy Modifications

Dairy-Free:

  • Use oat, almond, or coconut milk for the iced white mocha
  • Use dairy-free half-and-half and dairy free heavy cream in the sauce
  • Use dairy-free butter in the sauce
  • Use dairy-free white chocolate in the sauce
  • Use a dairy-free whipped topping

Lower Sugar:

  • Use sugar-free white chocolate sauce
  • Adjust sweetness to taste by using less sauce

Final Thoughts

If you’ve been spending $5–$7 on iced or hot white mochas from the coffee shop, this is your sign to start making them at home.

Once you try this, you’ll realize how easy it is to recreate your favorite coffee shop drinks with ingredients you already have on hand.
