If you’ve ever been to Dutch Bros, I’m sure you’re familiar with the iconic Dutch Bros Golden Eagle! It’s a signature drink that tastes like a cup of sweet and rich caramel coffee goodness.
This drink is one of my favorites from Dutch Bros, but you’ll be surprised to know just how simple this recipe is to make at home! So let’s run through the ingredients so you can start making your own delicious Dutch Bros Golden Eagles at home!
Ingredients You’ll Need:
Please note, full measurements are listed on the recipe card at the bottom of the recipe. Scroll to the end, or click the JUMP TO RECIPE button at the top of the page.
Vanilla Syrup: Dutch Bros uses Torani brand syrups and sauces, so to get the exact same taste at home, you’ll need the Torani Vanilla Syrup. Feel free to use another brand if desired, or use the Torani Sugar Free Vanilla Syrup for a sugar free alternative. If you’d prefer a homemade vanilla syrup, you’ll need 1 cup water, 1 cup sugar, 1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract, and 1 teaspoon salt. I’ll share the full instructions later in this recipe.
Espresso: Since this is a breve latte, you need espresso. See my 5 Ways to Make Espresso at Home blog post for all the different ways you can make espresso at home. It doesn’t matter which method you choose, simply follow the espresso making steps to get your espresso shots, and then use that to make your own Dutch Bros Golden Eagle. Note Dutch Bros uses a medium roast coffee, so for the most similar taste at home, use a medium roast coffee. Some of my favorite coffee options for this drink include:
Half & Half: This drink is unique because it uses half & half as the base, rather than milk. This gives the Dutch Bros Golden Eagle that iconic creaminess and richness! You can use any half & half from the grocery store, just know a fat free option will be slightly less rich and creamy. If you are dairy free, I very much recommend using the Nutpods Dairy Free Half & Half. I’m not dairy free myself, but I love this product! It is so creamy and has much less calories than regular half & half so I personally love using it in my homemade Dutch Bros Golden Eagle recipes, but absolutely feel free to use whatever you like best!
Caramel Sauce: Again, Dutch Bros uses Torani brand syrup and sauces, so you’d need the Torani Caramel Sauce to complete this drink. You’ll add the sauce inside of the drink as well as on top of the completed drink! Note, Torani does have a Sugar Free Caramel Sauce option if you’re looking for a sugar free option!
My Favorite Coffee Cups
I’m a firm believer that a cute and fun cup can make your at home coffee taste so much better! See all my favorite cups for coffees, teas, rebels, and freezes!
What is a Breve?
This drink is considered a breve, which simply means it has espresso + half & half. It is different from a latte which has espresso + milk, which means the texture is richer, creamer, and sweeter than a typical latte.
If you can’t tolerate much dairy, or you’re interested in a lower calorie option, I recommend the Dairy Free Nutpods Half & Half.
How To Make Espresso At Home
Espresso is an essential ingredient in all breves, and it’s a type of coffee that you cannot buy from the store, but rather, you need to make it yourself at home. There are five ways to make espresso at home:
- Instant Espresso Powder + water
- Nespresso Machine + espresso pods
- Moka Pot
- Aeropress
- Espresso Machine
See my 5 Ways To Make Espresso At Home blog post for step by step instructions of each espresso making method!
What’s The Best Coffee For Espresso?
The best coffee to buy depends on which espresso making method you choose at home. For example, if you have a Nespresso machine, you’d need espresso pods. For an espresso machine like a Breville or Delonghi, you’d need whole beans or ground coffee rather than pods.
See My Favorite Coffees To Buy based on the different espresso making methods so you can select the best possible coffee for you and your Dutch Bros Golden Eagle!
What is a “Shot” of Espresso?
A common espresso term you’ll see a lot is a “shot” of espresso. When you brew espresso using an espresso machine, the liquid that comes out of the machine is considered a shot, since the machine pushes out the liquid at high pressure.
- A single shot or one shot of espresso is roughly 1.25 ounces of liquid.
- A double shot is roughly 2.5 ounces of liquid.
- A triple shot is roughly 3.75 ounces of liquid.
- A quad shot is roughly 5 ounces of liquid.
At Dutch Bros, a small and medium size drink has 2 shots of espresso, and a large has 4 shots. Feel free to add more or less shots of espresso depending on your preference.
How To Make An Iced Dutch Bros Golden Eagle
- Brew your espresso shots using your preferred espresso making method. See my blog post on Five Ways to Make Espresso at Home.
- To the espresso shots, add in the vanilla syrup and caramel sauce.
- Stir well to combine all the ingredients and dissolve the sauce, then add in the half & half and mix again.
- Add ice to a separate serving cup and pour the espresso mixture over the ice. PRO TIP: Carefully pour the mixture back and forth between the two cups to chill the entire drink.
- Finish off your Dutch Bros Golden Eagle with a generous drizzle of Torani Caramel Sauce and enjoy!
How To Make A Hot Dutch Bros Golden Eagle
- Brew your espresso shots using your preferred espresso making method into a cup. See my blog post on Five Ways to Make Espresso at Home.
- To the espresso shots, add Torani Vanilla Syrup and Torani Caramel Sauce, and stir to combine.
- Add half & half to a milk frothing pitcher and steam using a steam wand. If you don’t have an espresso machine with a steam wand, you can warm and froth the milk using an aerroccino, or you could warm the milk in a pot/ in the microwave, and froth the warmed half & half with a handheld milk frother until foamy.
- Pour the steamed half & half over the vanilla-caramel-espresso mixture and top with a generous drizzle of Torani Caramel Sauce and enjoy!
How Can I Make This Lower Sugar/Lower Calories?
If you still want to enjoy a Dutch Bros Golden Eagle just with less sugar and fewer calories, feel free to make as many modifications as you’d like below:
- Use a dairy free half and half (15 calories per 2 tbsp servings versus 40 calories in regular half & half)
- Use a sugar free vanilla syrup
- Use a sugar free caramel sauce
How Can I Make This Dairy Free?
For a dairy free Dutch Bros Golden Eagle:
- Use a dairy free half and half
- Use a dairy free caramel sauce

Dutch Bros Golden Eagle Golden Ratios:
