My favorite local coffee shop (Press Coffee) has a delightful Pumpkin Espresso Shaker coffee for fall time and it is my favorite drink to order every year! I watched them make my drink the other day so I could learn how to recreate it at home, and let me tell you, it’s a must make this fall!
This Pumpkin Pie Oatmilk Shaken Espresso is my at home version of the delicious Press Coffee Pumpkin Espresso Shaker so you can recreate and enjoy this fabulous beverage at home this fall!

Ingredients You’ll Need:
For full measurements of each ingredient, see the recipe card at the bottom of this recipe post!

Torani Pumpkin Pie Sauce: Press Coffee uses the Torani Pumpkin Pie Sauce for this recipe which makes total sense for why the drink is delicious! The Torani sauce has a perfect spiced flavor that tastes like pumpkin pie in liquid form! If you can’t get your hands on the pumpkin sauce, you could absolutely opt for the Torani Pumpkin Pie Syrup or the Torani Pumpkin Spice Syrup! If you’re wanting a lower sugar Pumpkin Pie Oatmilk Shaken Espresso, use the Torani Sugar Free Pumpkin Pie Syrup instead!
Espresso: This is a shaken espresso beverage so you need espresso! Espresso is a type of coffee that you need to make at home, unfortunately you cannot buy premade espresso from the store. The good news is you can make espresso at home using various methods and regardless of if you own an espresso machine or not. See my blog post on 5 Ways To Make Espresso at Home for all the espresso making options. I do want to note, Press Coffee uses their Twitch Espresso Blend for their espresso, so if you want the most accurate taste, I very much recommend ordering the Twitch beans; they are phenomenal, and are one of my all time favorite coffees for making espresso at home!
Oat Milk: Press Coffee uses oat milk in this recipe so I like to do the same. Some of my favorite oat milks for coffee include the Oatly Barista Edition Oat Milk, the Chobani Extra Creamy Oat Milk, and the Bettergoods Extra Creamy Oat Milk. If you’re allergic or just not a fan of oat milk, feel free to use any other milk you enjoy!
Ice: This is an iced beverage so you need ice to chill the shaken espresso!
Pumpkin Pie Spice/Cinnamon: The barista at Press Coffee didn’t add any cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice to my drink but I feel like the drink absolutely needs one or the other to feel complete so I like to add a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice into the mix before shaking. You can do cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice, or completely skip it!
Orange Pumpkin Cups: These orange pumpkin cups are totally optional but they are the perfect size for this drink and they are so cute and fun for fall!
What Is A Shaken Espresso?
Starbucks came out with a drink a few years back called the Shaken Espresso where they shake together syrup, espresso and ice in a shaker cup, and then pour the chilled mixture into a cup and topped with milk.
This method of shaking the espresso together with sweetener and ice creates a chilled and foamy mixture that has become very popular with coffee drinkers and many coffee shops as well.

The drink is essentially the same thing as a latte, but shaking the espresso mixture before adding milk ensures every sip of the drink is chilled. With a latte, the usual method is to add sweetener to a cup, followed by the espresso, then milk, then ice. This can cause the top of the drink to be colder than the bottom of the drink and when you use a straw to drink your iced latte, you could get a mouth full of warm latte which isn’t ever enjoyable. A shaken espresso ensures the drink is chilled from top to bottom and also ensures the sweetener is fully dissolved in the drink rather than staying at the bottom of the cup.
I do want to mention, while shaken espressos are better for chilling the entire drink, their downfall is that the warm espresso and ice touch directly. This could potentially result in a watered down shaken espresso so let’s talk about a few ways you can prevent your shaken espresso from tasting watered down.

How To Keep My Drink From Tasting Watered Down:
Use larger ice cubes: If possible, instead of using pebble ice or nugget ice, use larger ice cubes in your shaken espressos to keep them from melting as quickly.
Pour the ice over the espresso: In your shaker cup or mason jar, add your pumpkin sauce in first, then your espresso, then add in your ice. This will keep more of the ice cold and frozen rather than pouring hot espresso over all the ice cubes and melting them instantly.

Use a LOT of ice: Add in more ice cubes than you think you need. More ice cubes mean the drink gets colder faster which means less melting of the ice into your drink!
Pour the shaken mixture over new ice: For an extra cold, non-watered down shaken espresso, after you shake your espresso and ice mixture together, pour only the liquid over a cup full of ice cubes, straining out the used ice from the shaken mixture. Many cocktail shaker lids have holes in the top to let the liquid flow through while keeping the ice inside the shaker, but you could use a strainer as well.
Personally, I do NOT recommend using coffee ice cubes in this recipe. I do not like how espresso tastes when you cool it, freeze it, and then add to more hot espresso. Personally I find the flavor changes too much and the old espresso clashes with the freshly brewed espresso. I know some people always recommend this option, but I am not a fan. I love the idea for cold brew, but not for espresso based drinks.

How To Make Espresso At Home
There are five ways to make espresso at home:
- Instant Espresso Powder
- Nespresso Machine
- Moka Pot
- Aeropress
- Espresso Machine
See my 5 Ways To Make Espresso At Home blog post for step by step instructions of each espresso making method!
Once you establish which method you want to use for making espresso, then we can decide on exactly which coffee products to buy!
What’s The Best Coffee to Use For Espresso?
For an Espresso Machine, a Moka Pot, or an Aeropress:
- Laka Java Wahine Blonde Roast Espresso (Use code: katerinafaith for 10% off)
- Press Coffee Twitch Espresso Beans
- Press Coffee Spitball Espresso
- Blue Bottle Coffee Espresso Beans
For a Nespresso Machine:
- Orafio (single shot pods)
- Peru Organic (single shot pods)
- Double Espresso Dolce (double shot pods)
- Double Espresso Chairo (double shot pods)
For Instant Espresso:
- Nescafe Gold Instant Espresso (light/blonde roast)
- Cafe Bustelo Instant Espresso (dark roast)
Note for instant espresso, I like to follow the following ratios:
- Single shot: 1/4 tablespoon instant espresso + 1.25 ounces warm water
- Double shot: 1/2 tablespoon instant espresso + 2.5 ounces warm water
- Triple shot: 3/4 tablespoon instant espresso + 3.75 ounces warm water
- Quad shot: 1 tablespoon instant espresso + 5 ounces warm water

How To Make a Pumpkin Pie Oatmilk Shaken Espresso:
Start by brewing your espresso shots using your preferred espresso making method. Again, Press Coffee uses their Twitch Espresso Blend for this recipe and an espresso machine, so I recommend using both of those for the closest tasting at home version. If you don’t have an espresso machine, no worries, you can still make a delicious copy kat version! Simply make your espresso using your preferred method, and then continue to the next step.

To a shaker cup, cocktail shaker, or a mason jar with a lid, add the Torani Pumpkin Pie Sauce, brewed espresso, pumpkin pie spice/cinnamon, and fill the cup up fully with ice (preferably large ice cubes, not pebble ice). Add the lid to your cup, shaker, jar and shake the mixture until the vessel feels cold to the touch.
Remove the lid and pour the mixture into a drinking cup or glass. You could even strain out the used ice and pour only the liquid over a cup full of fresh ice.
Top the drink with oat milk to fill the cup, and an optional additional sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice for garnish, and enjoy!

How Can I Make This Dairy Free?
For a dairy free pumpkin pie oatmilk shaken espresso, simply use the Torani Pumpkin Pie Syrup or the Torani Pumpkin Spice Syrup instead of the sauce! Keep everything else the same.
How Can I Make This Lower Sugar/Lower Calories?
For a lower sugar/lower calorie pumpkin pie oatmilk shaken espresso:
- Use the Torani Sugar Free Pumpkin Pie Syrup
- Use a lower sugar/calorie milk like unsweetened almond milk, unsweetened soy milk, unsweetened coconut milk or unsweetened oat milk.

How Can I Make This Higher Protein?
For a high protein version, use a pumpkin flavored protein shake instead of the milk in this recipe. You could also skip the Pumpkin Pie Sauce entirely and just use the protein shake, espresso, pumpkin pie spice/cinnamon, and ice!
How Can I Make This Hot?
Instead of a shaken espresso, you could easily make this drink hot by making a hot pumpkin pie latte! You’ll need Torani Pumpkin Pie Sauce, espresso, steamed milk, and pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon. To a cup, add your sauce, espresso, steamed milk and top with pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon!
