Starbucks Blackberry Sage Refresher

Last week, Starbucks released a brand new drink, their Blackberry Sage Refresher! You can order this drink as a plain refresher with a water base, or you could order the lemonade or coconut version!

It has an absolutely delicious blackberry flavor, but I thought the sage flavor was weak and almost non-existent in the drink which was disappointing for me because I think sage and blackberry are lovely together!

If you love this drink at Starbucks but want to make this drink yourself at home, you’re in luck! This at home recipe is so simple to make, and you can whip up a large batch for the week in just one sitting. Let’s dive into the ingredients you’ll need!

Ingredients You’ll Need:

Please note, full measurements are listed on the recipe card at the bottom of the recipe. Scroll to the end, or click the JUMP TO RECIPE button at the top of the page.

White Grape Juice: the base of every Starbucks Refresher is white grape juice concentrate. We’ll essentially be making our own concentrate since we’ll be boiling the grape juice mixture for a sweet, grape juice base! You can easily find white grape juice at any grocery aisle in the juice aisle.

Blackberries: This is in fact a blackberry sage refresher, so you will need blackberries! Opt for fresh or frozen, both work great and taste the same in this recipe. The Starbucks recipe calls for freeze-dried blackberries to add into the finished drink, however they are quite pricey for a teeny tiny bag, so I recommend just adding in a small handful of fresh or frozen blackberries for garnish and more blackberry flavor.

Lemon juice: Adding just a tablespoon of lemon juice brightens up the refresher recipe and contrasts beautifully with the sweetness of the berries and the grape juice.

Fresh Sage: The star of this recipe is the fresh sage! You can find this at the grocery store in the herbs aisle. I recommend fresh sage rather than dried, but if you can only find dried sage, that works too. The more sprigs you add, the more intense the sage flavor will be in your refresher. I like an identifiable sage taste that compliments the blackberry without over powering it, so I like 3 sprigs of sage. Feel free to add more or less depending on your preference!

Salt: I’m a die hard believer that adding salt to any sweet recipe will help bring out the sweetness and flavor of any recipe. The tiny pinch of salt will not make your refresher taste salty, it will just enhance the flavors even more!

OPTIONAL Green Coffee Bean Powder: The Starbucks Blackberry Sage drinks all contain caffeine so if you’re also wanting the same caffeine boost at home, you’ll need to add Green Coffee Bean Powder! This powder completely dissolves into the drink and doesn’t affect the taste or the texture at all. You can add the powder into the pot and boil it along with the rest of the ingredients, or you could wait and add it at the end when you make the drink. I like to leave it out of the pot that way I have the option to make my refreshers with or without caffeine, but absolutely do what works best for you!

Ice: This is an iced refresher drink so you’ll need ice cubes to chill the drink!

Water: This recipe shows you how to make a large batch of the Starbucks Blackberry Sage Refresher Base so you can make multiple refreshers throughout the week. You’ll add the base to water, lemonade or coconut milk to make your Blackberry Sage drink of choice.

How much green coffee bean extract should you add when cooking the base?

Hi Lori! If you’re using the green coffee bean powder linked in the recipe, it should come with a teeny tiny scoop, and I’d add 8 scoops (one scoop per serving) – should be around a teaspoon or so 🙂

Can you use blackberry syrup white the base instead of fresh blackberries?

I haven’t tried but I’m sure it would be fine, just know it may taste extra sweet:)
