How to Make Cold Brew at Home:

If you prefer to make your own cold brew at home, this is the process I recommend:

  • Add 1 1/2 cups medium roast coffee grounds to a French Press.
  • Add 3 cups room temperature water to the French press and gently stir to saturate the grounds.
  • Place the plunger on top of the French Press to cover, but don’t plunge down.
  • Set the French Press on the counter and let brew for 18 hours.
  • After 18 hours, plunge down and pour the cold brew concentrate into a mason jar or a pitcher with a lid.
  • This is a concentrate, so I like to do 1 part concentrate to 2 parts cold water (1/2 cup concentrate to 1 cup cold water, or 1 cup concentrate to 2 cups cold water)
  • Then add your choice of syrups/sweeteners, milk/cream, and ice!

My favorite grounds to use for at home cold brew are:

Cold Foam Best Practices

  • For great at home cold foam, you need a good handheld milk frother.
  • I recommend making your cold foam in a small, thin glass, rather than a wide glass. This helps the cold foam get thick throughout.
  • YES you need milk AND heavy cream. Starbucks uses both in their versions, so I recommend using both. The heavy cream is essential for getting the cold foam thick and creamy, while the milk makes sure the texture is cold foam like, rather than whipped cream like.
