If you love a Starbucks Matcha Latte but you’re tired of spending so much money on it, I have good news for you. You only need 2 ingredients (three if you want an iced matcha latte) to make your own Starbucks Copy Kat Matcha Latte at home!
The process is so unbelievably simple, you’re going to kick yourself when you see how easy it is to make it yourself at home!
Let’s dive into the ingredients you’ll need.

Ingredients Needed for a Starbucks Matcha Latte At home
- Sweetened Matcha Powder: I like the Jade Leaf Sweetened Matcha Latte. Starbucks uses a sweetened matcha powder for their iced and hot matcha drinks, so we also need to use a sweetened matcha powder to recreate it at home. Note, this type of matcha is not the same as a culinary grade matcha or a ceremonial grade matcha. For an accurate Starbucks replica, you need a sweetened matcha powder that has green tea leaves and sugar in the ingredients list. You could also use a ceremonial grade matcha and add sugar if you prefer to control the sweetness level.
- 2% Milk: Starbucks uses 2% as the standard milk in their iced and hot matcha lattes, but absolutely feel free to use whatever milk you prefer!
- Ice: If you want an iced matcha latte, you will need ice. For a hot matcha latte, no ice is required.
Equipment Needed for a Starbucks Matcha Latte At home
- Shaker Cup: Starbucks uses a shaker cup to shake together the milk, ice and matcha powder together. For the most similar vibe at home, I recommend using a shaker cup as well or even a mason jar with a lid works great!
- Handheld Milk Frother: Another way to mix together the matcha powder and milk is to use a handheld milk frother! This easily blends the ingredients together to give you a nice foamy and blended matcha latte.
- Steam Wand/Milk Frother: For a hot matcha latte, you need a way to steam or froth the milk. We’ll talk more about ways to steam milk at home in the next section.
- Cups/Mugs: See all my favorite cups and mugs linked HERE!
How To Steam Milk For a Hot Matcha Latte
Hot matcha lattes require steamed milk as one of the ingredients. To steam milk at home, you have a few options:
- Steam Wand: If you have an espresso machine with a steam wand attached to it, watch this Milk Steaming Video Tutorial for how to steam milk! You simply add milk to a milk frothing pitcher, insert the tip of the steam wand into the milk, and create air bubbles, heat and texture to create perfect, velvety steamed milk at home!
- Electric Milk Frother: Add your milk to an electric milk frother, and select the hot setting. The milk frother will heat the milk as well as create a thick and foamy texture. The texture will be a little different than a typical steam wand, but it’s very similar and pleasant, and a great option if you don’t have an espresso machine with a steam wand.
- Handheld Milk Frother: Add cold milk to a large coffee mug and place the mug in the microwave for 60 seconds. Alternatively, you can heat up milk in a pot on the stove until warm, just make sure to constantly stir it so it doesn’t burn. Once your milk is warm, insert a handheld milk frother into the warm milk. Froth the mixture until the milk doubles in size and becomes bubbly and frothy, and you have steamed milk for your hot matcha latte!
Note, for an iced matcha latte, you do not need to warm or steam the milk.
