What Does Sugar Cookie Coffee Creamer Taste Like?

Think of a freshly baked vanilla sugar cookie with a buttery finish and just a hint of almond.

That’s exactly the flavor we’re going for!

The sweetened condensed milk provides a rich, sweet base, while the vanilla extract adds that classic sugar cookie flavor. Almond extract gives it a slightly nutty, bakery-style finish, and a little butter extract helps recreate the flavor of a freshly baked cookie.

The result is a smooth, sweet, creamy coffee creamer that tastes delicious in hot or iced coffee.

If you love Starbucks’ Sugar Cookie Latte, this homemade creamer is a fun way to recreate a similar flavor at home!

Ingredients You’ll Need

You only need six ingredients to make this homemade sugar cookie coffee creamer.

Half & Half — 16 ounces

Half & half gives this homemade creamer its rich, smooth texture without being quite as heavy as using all heavy cream. It’s my favorite base for homemade coffee creamers because it blends beautifully with sweetened condensed milk. Opt for dairy-free half & half or oat milk for a dairy-free version.

Sweetened Condensed Milk — 1 (14-ounce) can

Sweetened condensed milk adds sweetness, richness, and that thick, creamy consistency we love in coffee creamer. It also means you don’t need to add any additional sugar! For a dairy-free version, use sweetened condensed oat milk or coconut milk, or if you prefer a different sweetener for your creamer, use maple syrup, brown sugar, or agave.

Salt — ¼ teaspoon

A little salt helps balance the sweetness and brings out the vanilla, almond, and buttery flavors.

Vanilla Extract — 1 teaspoon

Vanilla is the foundation of that classic sugar cookie flavor. I recommend using a good-quality vanilla extract for the best results. Note, vanilla bean paste will also work here.

Almond Extract — ½ teaspoon

Almond extract adds that distinctive bakery-style flavor that makes sugar cookies taste extra special. A little goes a long way, so measure carefully!

Butter Extract — ¼ teaspoon

This is my favorite addition for recreating the flavor of a freshly baked sugar cookie! Butter extract adds a buttery flavor without needing to melt actual butter into the creamer. Plus actual butter will harden once the creamer is chilled so with extract, you get all the same flavor without the weird butter clumps in your creamer.

How to Make Homemade Sugar Cookie Coffee Creamer

Making homemade coffee creamer couldn’t be easier!

Step 1: Add Ingredients to a Blender

Add the half & half, sweetened condensed milk, salt, vanilla extract, almond extract, and butter extract to a blender.

Step 2: Blend Until Smooth

Blend until everything is fully combined and the mixture is smooth and creamy.

You don’t need to blend for very long! Just enough to incorporate the sweetened condensed milk and extracts (about 15-30 seconds).

Step 3: Transfer to a Jar

Pour the creamer into a clean glass jar or airtight container. I like these LARGE CREAMER BOTTLES to store a full batch for yourself, but if you’re gifting to friends and family, these SMALL CREAMER BOTTLES are perfect!

Step 4: Refrigerate and Enjoy!

Store the creamer in the refrigerator and give it a good shake before each use.

Add your desired amount to hot coffee, iced coffee, cold brew, or tea!

How to Make Dairy-Free Sugar Cookie Creamer

You can absolutely make this recipe dairy-free!

To replace the half & half, try one of these options:

  • Dairy-free half & half: My favorite option for a smooth, creamy dairy-free coffee creamer.
  • Barista-style oat milk: A great option for a creamy consistency that mixes well into coffee.
  • Coconut milk: Full-fat canned coconut milk creates a richer creamer, although it will add some coconut flavor.

To replace the condensed milk try one of these options:

  • Dairy-free sweetened condensed coconut milk: Keep in mind that it may add a slight coconut flavor to your finished creamer.
  • Dairy-free sweetened condensed oat milk: A great oat based option!

Use the same measurements as the original recipe as a starting point, and adjust the consistency and sweetness to your preference.

Be sure to check you have dairy-free versions of your flavor extracts.

How to Make Lower-Sugar Sugar Cookie Creamer

One of my favorite things about making coffee creamer at home is being able to customize the ingredients and sweetness to your liking!

Because the original recipe uses a full can of sweetened condensed milk, it’s naturally quite sweet.

If you’re looking to reduce the sugar, here are a few options.

Option 1: Use Less Sweetened Condensed Milk

The easiest way to reduce the added sugar is to use less sweetened condensed milk.

Try starting with half a can instead of the full can, then taste and adjust as needed.

Your creamer will be a little less sweet and slightly thinner, but you’ll still get that delicious sugar cookie flavor!

Option 2: Make Sugar Cookie Creamer Without Added Sugar

You can also skip the sweetened condensed milk entirely and sweeten the creamer with your preferred no-added-sugar sweetener.

Some options include:

  • Stevia
  • Monk fruit sweetener
  • Allulose

Start with 16 ounces of half & half or your preferred unsweetened milk, add the extracts and salt, and sweeten to taste.

Keep in mind that different sweeteners vary significantly in sweetness, so follow the manufacturer’s conversion recommendations and start with a small amount.

A note on texture: Omitting the sweetened condensed milk will make the creamer thinner and less rich.

This version can be made without added sugar, although dairy milk still contains naturally occurring lactose. Check the ingredients in your milk, extracts, and sweetener if you’re specifically avoiding added sugar.

Option 3: Make Homemade Sugar-Free Sweetened Condensed Milk With Allulose

If you want a thicker, creamier coffee creamer without using traditional sweetened condensed milk, you can make your own allulose-sweetened condensed milk!

Combine your preferred milk with allulose and gently simmer until reduced and thickened, stirring regularly to prevent scorching.

Allow the mixture to cool before using it in your homemade sugar cookie creamer.

This is a great option if you want more control over the ingredients while keeping some of the richness and body that sweetened condensed milk provides.

Recipe testing note: The exact cooking time, reduction, and consistency will depend on the type of milk you use. Allulose also behaves differently from regular sugar, so this substitution may need a little experimenting to achieve your preferred texture.

4 Delicious Ways to Use Sugar Cookie Coffee Creamer

This homemade creamer isn’t just for your morning cup of coffee! Here are a few of my favorite ways to enjoy it.

1. Sugar Cookie Cold Brew

For a delicious iced coffee, combine:

  • 10 ounces cold brew coffee
  • 1–2 ounces homemade sugar cookie creamer
  • Ice
  • Whipped cream and holiday sprinkles, optional

Fill a glass with ice, add your cold brew and sugar cookie creamer, and stir until combined.

Top with whipped cream and festive sprinkles for an extra-special holiday treat!

2. Sugar Cookie Hot Coffee

Sometimes the simplest coffee recipes are the best!

Combine:

  • 10–12 ounces freshly brewed hot coffee
  • 1–2 ounces homemade sugar cookie creamer

Stir until combined and enjoy!

This is a great option if you’re using a regular drip coffee maker and want to make your everyday coffee taste like a holiday coffee shop drink.

3. Sugar Cookie Cold Foam

YES, you can even turn this creamer into homemade sugar cookie cold foam!

Combine:

  • 2 ounces homemade sugar cookie creamer
  • 1 tablespoon heavy whipping cream

Froth together using a handheld milk frother or electric frother until thickened and creamy.

Pour over your favorite cold brew, iced coffee, or iced latte.

Because this creamer is already sweetened, there’s no need to add additional sugar or syrup.

For a dairy-free version, use a dairy-free whipping cream.

4. Sugar Cookie Chai or Matcha Latte

Don’t drink coffee? No problem!

This sugar cookie creamer is also delicious in chai and matcha lattes.

Add 1–2 ounces of creamer to your favorite hot or iced chai latte or matcha latte, stir until combined, and enjoy!

The vanilla and almond flavors pair especially well with the warm spices in chai.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use milk instead of half & half?

Absolutely! Whole milk is a great substitute if you prefer a lighter coffee creamer. You can also use 2% milk, oat milk, or another milk of your choice.

Just keep in mind that using milk instead of half & half will create a thinner consistency.

Do I have to use almond extract?

No! If you don’t like almond extract or have an almond allergy, you can omit it.

The creamer will still have a delicious vanilla and buttery flavor, although it won’t have quite the same bakery-style sugar cookie taste. If avoiding almonds because of an allergy, always check extract labels for allergens and cross-contact warnings.

Can I skip the butter extract?

Yes! Butter extract adds that classic freshly baked cookie flavor, but you can leave it out if you don’t have any on hand.

The creamer will taste more like vanilla-almond coffee creamer without it.

Can I use this creamer in iced coffee?

Absolutely! This creamer is delicious in both hot and iced coffee.

For iced coffee, I recommend starting with 1–2 ounces of creamer and adjusting based on how sweet and creamy you like your drink.

How long does homemade sugar cookie creamer last?

Because this creamer is made with dairy and contains no commercial preservatives, I recommend refrigerating it promptly in a clean, airtight container and using it within approximately 14 days, provided your ingredients are fresh and their original use-by dates have not passed.

Can I freeze homemade coffee creamer?

You can freeze it, although the texture may change after thawing.

Dairy-based creamers can separate or become slightly grainy when frozen. If you choose to freeze it, thaw it in the refrigerator and blend or shake thoroughly before using.

For the best texture and flavor, I recommend making smaller batches and enjoying them fresh.
