You may have noticed, Starbucks has a new drink on their fall menu: the NEW Iced Apple Crisp Nondairy Cream Chai! It’s an iced chai latte with a Nondairy Apple Crisp Cold Foam and I must say, it’s delicious!
If you’re a fan of this drink and you want to make your own at home (for much cheaper), you are going to love this at home recipe. This recipe is easy to follow and uses simple ingredients, so you can enjoy this fall favorite any time.

Ingredients You’ll Need to Make an Iced Apple Crisp Nondairy Cream Chai
- Chai Concentrate: I’ve tried a lot of chai concentrates in my day, and the one I’ve found that is the closest to Starbucks, is the Oregon Chai Extra Spicy Super Concentrate. It’s the most concentrated mixture I’ve tried and perfectly mimics the spiced chai flavor in the Starbucks chai concentrate. Note if you’re using other chai concentrates, be sure to follow the recommended concentrate to milk ratio on the container as they all differ. Other chai concentrate runners-ups include:
- Oat Milk: Starbucks uses the Oatly Barista Edition Oat Milk, so I recommend using that for the most similar taste. Of course, feel free to use your favorite oat milk, or other plant based milk. My favorite oat milk options include:
- Ice: You need ice cubes since this is an iced chai. If you want to make a hot chai latte, you do not need any ice.
- Apple Brown Sugar Syrup: Starbucks has their own Apple Brown Sugar Syrup which you may be able to find online or you can follow my homemade Apple Brown Sugar Syrup recipe! If you can’t find the Starbucks syrup and you don’t want to make your own, you can substitute with the Torani Apple Syrup and Torani Brown Sugar Cinnamon Syrup. Just use equal parts of each syrup in the cold foam recipe.
- Soy Milk: Starbucks uses a combination of oat milk and soy milk for their nondairy cold foam. The soy milk gives the foam a great texture and flavor. I recommend using a sweetened soy milk to taste most like Starbucks, but if you’re trying to keep the sugar a bit lower, opt for an unsweetened soy milk.
- Optional Toppings: I like to add a sprinkle of cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice for an extra touch of flavor!

How Can I Make This Lower Sugar?
For a lower sugar or sugar free version of this drink at home:
- Use a low sugar or zero sugar chai concentrate option.
- Steep chai tea bags in hot water and then add your choice of low calorie/low sugar sweetener, rather than using a premade concentrate.
- Use unsweetened almond milk instead of oat milk.
- Use a lower sugar chai latte mix like this one by Kola Goodies.
- Make a low sugar or zero sugar Apple Brown Sugar Syrup by using sugar substitutes for the cane sugar and brown sugar.
- Use an unsweetened soy milk for the cold foam.
How Can I Make This Hot?
The recipe and measurements are the same for a hot latte, the only differences:
- You need to steam the milk for a hot chai latte.
- You don’t add any ice to a hot latte.
- See my Hot Chai Latte Recipe for detailed instructions

What Ratios Does Starbucks Use?
This recipe is for a 16 ounce drink, or a Starbucks grande. If you want to switch up the size to a Starbucks tall or venti, follow the ratios below. Note, the cold foam measurements stay the same no matter the size:
| TALL | GRANDE | VENTI | |
| CHAI CONCENTRATE | 3 PUMPS | 4 PUMPS | 6 PUMPS |
| MILK | 6 OZ | 8 OZ | 11 OZ |
Note, each PUMP is equal to 1/2 ounce. This may also vary based on which pump you use
How Can I Make This a Dirty Chai?
To make this drink a dirty chai, simply add 1-2 shots of espresso to the chai concentrate before adding the milk! This will give your chai latte an extra caffeine boost as well as a bolder, richer coffee flavor.
