Starbucks Salted Pecan Cream Cold Foam

In case you hadn’t heard, Starbucks came out with a new Pecan Syrup flavor this fall and it is fabulous! The flavor reminds me a lot of the Chestnut Praline Syrup that comes out arounds Christmas time, and has a delicious sweet, nutty flavor.

The pecan syrup is great in so many things like iced or hot lattes, cold brews, chai lattes, and of course cold foam! So today, I’m going to show you how you can make the Starbucks Salted Pecan Cream Cold Foam at home, so you can save your money and enjoy this insanely delicious drink topper all fall season long (and beyond).

Let’s jump into the equipment you’ll need to make the cold foam at home.

Equipment Needed For At Home Cold Foam

That’s it! With a cup and a handheld milk frother, you can create the most perfect dairy or nondairy Starbucks cold foams at home! Now let’s run through the ingredients you will need.

Ingredients Needed To Make Starbucks Salted Pecan Cream Cold Foam At Home:

PECAN SYRUP: I have a Homemade Pecan Syrup Recipe that tastes just like the Starbucks one! It only has four ingredients and is so unbelievably simple to make. You will need the Homemade Pecan Syrup or the Torani Butter Pecan Syrup to make the Starbucks Salted Pecan Cream Cold Foam at home.

SALT: Since this is a Salted Pecan cold foam recipe, you need a tiny pinch of salt to add a subtle salty flavor that really brings out the sweetness of the pecan syrup. I like using flaky sea salt, but feel free to use whatever salt you enjoy most.

2% MILK: In the regular (non dairy free) cold foam recipe, Starbucks uses 2% milk for the cold foam. To get the most accurate cold foam texture at home, I recommend also using 2% milk. I have used 1% milk in the past, and it works great too, but the 2% milk just gives the cold foam a tad bit more thickness since it has a higher fat content. If you are dairy free, no worries, I share the dairy free cold foam version ingredients later in the recipe.

HEAVY WHIPPING CREAM: The key ingredient in the Starbucks cold foam recipe is the heavy cream. Heavy cream has a super high fat content which helps the cold foam get nice and thick and stays on the top of your drink for a longer time. If you froth or whip heavy cream on it’s own, you’ll eventually get whipped cream, so that’s why adding a small amount of 2% milk to it is so important for thinning it out a tad to get that perfectly airy cold foam texture.

That’s all you need for the Starbucks Salted Pecan Cream Cold Foam! If you are dairy free but still want to enjoy this delicious Starbucks Salted Pecan Cream Cold Brew, here are the ingredients you need for the nondairy version!

Ingredients Needed for the Starbucks Nondairy Salted Pecan Cream Cold Foam:

BARISTA STYLE OAT MILK: Starbucks uses the Oatly Barista Style Oat Milk for all their nondairy cold foam options. This oat milk has a high fat content due to the added oils in it and it helps the oat milk froth up nicely when paired with soy milk. Keep in mind different oat milks have different fat contents and a “cleaner” or minimal ingredient oat milk might not froth the same way as a barista style or extra creamy oat milk will. See my favorite oat milk options for the best at home cold foam texture below:

SOY MILK: Similar to how the regular cold foam recipe combines 2% milk and heavy cream for that perfectly creamy cold foam texture, Starbucks combines barista style oat milk and soy milk to get a super fluffy, thick, and airy nondairy cold foam. Soy milk has a decently high fat content that helps the cold foam get thick without seeping into the drink. You do need both barista style oat milk and soy milk to achieve the same texture as Starbucks.

Now for the fun part, making the cold foam at home!

How To Make Starbucks Salted Pecan Cream Cold Foam At Home:

Whether you’re opting for the dairy version or the nondairy version, the process for making The Starbucks Salted Pecan Cream Cold Foam is the same!

  1. Add all ingredients to a small cup, froth the mixture with a handheld milk frother for 30 seconds (or until thick), and pour the cold foam over your drink of choice!

That’s it! Making cold foam at home is literally that easy! Now you have no excuse for not making it yourself at home!

If you are experiencing some issues with your cold foam not getting thick enough, here are some tips for troubleshooting your at home cold foam process!

What Should I Do If My Cold Foam Won’t Get Thick?

  1. Get a better milk frother! No, not all milk frothers are created equal. The best one I have tried is the BonsenKitchen handheld milk frother. It’s $6 on Amazon, and is essential for great at home cold foam!
  2. Add more heavy cream! The 1:2:3 (syrup, milk, heavy cream) ratio I use in this recipe is fool proof, but if you steer away from it too much, you’ll notice your cold foam won’t get as thick. If you try to substitue with half & half or almond milk, your cold foam will not be the same texture as Starbucks, so keep that in mind. Be sure your heavy cream amounts are higher than your milk amounts!
  3. Change the batteries in your milk frother! Sometimes you may notice your cold foam doesn’t get as thick as it used to and you didn’t change anything! Simply swap out the old batteries with new ones, and I guarantee you’ll have thick cold foam again!
  4. Make sure to use BOTH 2% milk AND heavy cream (or for the nondairy version: barista style oat milk AND soy milk)! Opting for just one or the other will not give you the same texture as Starbucks. Sure you can make substitutions to fit your diet/lifestyle/preference, but not all substitutions will achieve the exact same texture as the original recipe ingredients.

How To Make a Low Calorie or Low Sugar Cold Foam?

I recommend simply using a sugar free syrup/sweetener and using half the amount of milk and heavy cream. Instead of 2 tablespoons of milk and 3 tablespoons of heavy cream, simply use 1 tbsp of milk, and 1.5 tbsp of heavy cream. This will take the calories from 215 to 83 calories!
