If you’re looking for a way to enjoy your favorite holiday coffee flavors without the heavy milk base, this Gingerbread Americano is the perfect solution. It’s simple, cozy, and gives you all the warm, spiced flavors of the season — but in a lighter, more balanced cup.
An Americano is made by combining espresso with hot water (or cold water for the iced version), which makes it less intense than straight espresso but bolder and more complex than brewed coffee (like from a coffee pot or a Keurig). And when you swirl in a splash of my Homemade Gingerbread Creamer, it transforms into a deliciously festive drink that tastes like the holidays in a mug.

I used to save my gingerbread flavors for lattes only, but once I started making Americanos at home, I realized how satisfying they can be — rich and aromatic, but not too heavy. Plus, it’s a great lower-calorie alternative to many coffee shop holiday drinks!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Lower calorie than a latte: Using hot water instead of milk cuts calories and keeps things light.
- Customizable: You can use any flavored creamer you love — from peppermint to coconut.
- Quick and cozy: Takes less than 5 minutes to make and tastes like the holidays.
- Easily dairy-free: Perfect with oat, almond, or cashew-based creamers.

Ingredients
- 6 ounces hot water
- 2 shots espresso, see my post 5 Ways To Make Espresso at Home for all the different espresso brewing methods.

- Brew two shots of espresso using your preferred espresso making method.
- Pour the espresso over the hot water.

Substitutions & Variations
- Use any creamer you love!
Don’t limit yourself to gingerbread — this Americano works beautifully with:- Peppermint Mocha Creamer
- Salted Maple Cashew Creamer (dairy free)
- Coconut Creamer (dairy free)
- Pumpkin Spice Creamer
- Homemade Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Creamer
- Or even your favorite store-bought holiday flavors.
- Use Gingerbread Syrup instead:
If you prefer syrups over creamers, swap the creamer for 1/2-1 tablespoon of my Homemade Gingerbread Syrup and a splash of heavy cream or half & half. It’s the perfect balance of bold and sweet. - Make it lower sugar & lighter:
For a lighter, lower-sugar version of your creamer, use unsweetened condensed milk and dairy-free half & half in your homemade creamer recipe. You’ll still get that creamy texture but with fewer calories and less sugar.

Tips
- Espresso substitute: No espresso machine? Make a cup of brewed coffee instead. You get a similar taste and vibe without needing espresso.
- Froth your creamer: For extra texture, froth the creamer before pouring it in.
- Play with spices: Try adding a pinch of ground cloves, ginger, or allspice for even more gingerbread warmth.
- How to make espresso: see my post 5 Ways To Make Espresso at Home for all the different espresso brewing methods.
Why This Drink Works
Because water is the base instead of milk, an Americano lets the espresso flavor shine through while still feeling cozy and comforting. The gingerbread creamer adds all the sweetness and spice you’d expect from a latte — just in a lighter, lower-calorie form.
It’s a simple but elegant upgrade to your morning coffee routine — the kind of drink that makes you slow down and appreciate the small, seasonal moments.
