If you’ve seen Starbucks rolling out protein coffee drinks and thought…I need to make that at home, you’re in the right palce.
Starbucks’ protein lattes are smooth, lightly sweet, and surprisingly taste like a real latte, not like a super chalky a protein shake. I already have a Starbucks Vanilla Protein Latte recipe, but I wanted to recreate the caramel version as well.
This copycat Starbucks Caramel Protein Latte uses a protein-boosted milk base, espresso, and caramel syrup to create a drink that’s creamy, coffee-forward, and packed with protein, all while being easy to make with simple ingredients.

Why This Copycat Works
- Protein is fully dissolved into the milk first (no clumps)
- Unflavored whey keeps it neutral and coffee-forward
- Ultra-filtered milk boosts protein without making it thick
- Caramel adds the perfect amount of sweetness
- It tastes like a latte first, protein drink second

Starbucks Caramel Protein Latte
Serves 1 | ~230–270 calories | ~28g protein (iced) | ~21 grams of protein (hot)
Ingredients
- ½ scoop unflavored whey protein isolate (about 17g)
- 8 ounces ultra-filtered 2% milk
- 1–2 tablespoons caramel syrup (homemade or store-bought), adjust to taste
- 2 shots espresso (about 2 ounces)
- Ice
For a hot latte:
Use ¼ scoop whey protein isolate (about 9g)

Instructions
1. Make the Protein Milk
Add the milk and whey protein isolate to a blender or shaker bottle.
Blend or shake until completely smooth and fully dissolved.
2. Let It Sit (Optional but Recommended)
Refrigerate for at least 1 hour, then give it a quick whisk or shake before using.
This helps improve texture and ensures everything stays smooth.
3. Build the Drink
Add caramel syrup to a glass.
Brew the espresso directly over the top and stir to combine.
(See my post: “5 Ways to Make Espresso at Home (With or Without a Machine)” for all your espresso brewing options.)
Fill the glass with ice, then pour in the protein milk. Stir once more and enjoy immediately.

How to Make It Hot
To make a hot caramel protein latte:
- Use ¼ scoop whey protein isolate instead of ½ scoop. Add the milk and whey protein isolate to a blender or shaker bottle.
- Blend or shake until completely smooth and fully dissolved.
- Refrigerate for at least 1 hour, then give it a quick whisk or shake before using.
- Once fully mixed, gently heat or steam the protein milk using:
- an espresso machine steam wand
- an electric milk frother (great if you don’t own an espresso machine)
- or a saucepan over low heat, whisking constantly
- Combine caramel syrup and espresso in a mug, then pour the warm protein milk over top. Serve immediately.

Caramel Syrup Options
For the best flavor, I recommend using:
Both are super easy to make and taste so much better than store-bought options.

Optional Adjustments
Make it sweeter:
Add more caramel syrup (opt for sugar-free to keep sugar lower)
Higher protein:
Use ¾ scoop whey isolate (+6–7g protein)
Sugar-free:
Use my homemade sugar-free caramel syrup or a sugar free store-bought option
Dairy-free:
Starbucks doesn’t offer a dairy-free version (because whey contains dairy), but you can make one at home using:
- plant-based protein powder
- soy, pea, or chickpea milk (these are higher protein compared to oat or almond milk)
Different flavor:
Swap caramel for:
- vanilla
- brown sugar
- lavender
- white chocolate

Final Thoughts
This Caramel Protein Latte is proof that you don’t need a coffee shop to get a high-protein drink that actually tastes good.
It’s smooth, balanced, and feels like a real latte—not a protein shake—and once you try it at home, it’s hard to justify spending $6+ on one.
