One of my absolute favorite coffees on the planet is a simple vanilla latte. I’ve been making them at home for years now, using the Torani Vanilla Syrup, but I finally decided to make a Homemade Vanilla Syrup to elevate my vanilla lattes, and oh my goodness, what a difference the homemade syrup makes! If you’ve been on the hunt for a good, simple homemade vanilla syrup, look no further. This recipe is so incredibly easy, and you’ll hesitate to ever buy a store bought bottle again!
Ingredients You’ll Need:
Please note, full measurements are listed on the recipe card at the bottom of the recipe. Scroll to the end, or click the JUMP TO RECIPE button at the top of the page.
Granulated Cane Sugar: I use cane sugar for my homemade syrup recipes, but you could absolutely use whatever sugar free substitute you prefer to make a lower sugar or completely sugar free Homemade Vanilla Syrup!
Water: Make sure to use purified water or drinking water for the best tasting Homemade Vanilla Syrup.
Flaky Sea Salt: Adding a pinch of flaky sea salt helps bring out the sweetness in the syrup. A tiny pinch won’t make the syrup noticeably salty, just sweeter and more flavorful!
Vanilla Extract: Since this is a vanilla syrup recipe, you’ll need vanilla extract! Opting for a higher quality vanilla extract will give you the best tasting syrup at home. Note, you want a vanilla extract, not an imitation vanilla flavor.
That’s all you need to make your own Homemade Vanilla Syrup!

Equipment You’ll Need:
Saucepan: To make the syrup, you”ll need a small saucepan.
Spoon/Spatula: I always keep a spoon or spatula nearby to stir the syrup as needed. I like stirring the sugar and water together at the beginning of the recipe to ensure the sugar is fully dissolved.
Mason Jar/Syrup Bottle: I like storing my homemade syrups in a mason jar or syrup bottle. Mason jars can handle high heat and I love that you can add a lid and stash away in the fridge. Syrup bottles can’t handle too high of temperatures, but they do make the pouring process much simpler. Feel free to use any vessel you prefer to store your Homemade Vanilla Syrup.

Why Make Vanilla Syrup At Home?
Coffee Shops are Too Expensive: Yes I said it! Paying $7+ for a latte or Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew in this economy is outrageous! Sure grabbing coffee out here and there is fine, but for a daily coffee, I cannot justify paying that amount of money for one drink. Making your own syrups and drinks at home can help you save an insane amount of money every week or every month!
You Can Adjust According To Your Taste: If you want a sweeter taste, add more sugar or more salt. For a lower sugar syrup, use monk fruit or stevia. When you make your own syrups at home, you can adjust all the ingredients to perfectly match your preference!
You Control The Batch Size: Sometimes it’s hard to commit to a whole giant bottle of store bought syrup when you’re not sure if you’ll like the flavor, or if don’t think you’ll use the entire bottle. When you make it at home, you control the amount you make, and you can make a smaller batch to ensure you’ll get through it before it goes bad!
